"Barbizon" thematisiert idealistische Klischees der Landschaftsmalerei. Die eingesetzten digitalen Effekte kreieren eine Künstlichkeit, die die Darstellungweise von Naturphänomenenen ironisch hinterfragt.
"Barbizon" deals with the idealistic cliché of nature paintings. The digital effects create a panorama of artificiality and increase the perception of natural phenomena.
Die etwa sechs Meter breite Projektion zeigt das Bild einer Flusslandschaft in romantischer Abendstimmung. Während der Fluss gleichförmig fliesst und plätschert, bewegen sich die Wolken am Himmel in rasender Geschwindigkeit vor und zurück. Mit dem stillstehenden Panorama der Baumlinie wird das Bild optisch in drei verschiedene Geschwindigkeitszonen eingeteilt. Der manipulative Eingriff beschränkt sich lediglich auf das obere Drittel des Bildes, der Originalton ist beibehalten.
Die Malschule BARBIZON pflegte eine schlichte verinnerlichte Landschaftsmalerei (Paysage intime), die wegbereitend für den Impressionismus wurde. Sie suchte in der Natur nach neuen Ausdrucksformen. Sie hatte großen Einfluss auf die Entwicklung der europäischen Landschaftsmalerei des 19. Jahrhunderts.
The ideal landscape of "Barbizon" reproduces a picture of romantic evening mood. While a river flows continuously, the clouds in the sky move in racing speed forwards and backwards. A black panorama of trees divides the picture optically into three different zones of speed. The manipulative intervention is limited to the upper third of the picture. The original sound is maintained.
The Barbizon school (circa 1830–1870) of painters is named after the village of Barbizon in France, where the artists gathered. The Barbizon painters were part of a movement towards realism in art in reaction to the more formalized romantic movement of the time. The Barbizon painters proclaimed the abandon of formalism towards an inspiration directly from nature. They focussed on natural scenes as subjects of their paintings rather than mere backdrops to dramatic events. The Barbizon school influenced European landscape painting in the 19th century.
