The videoinstallation "Gloria al bravo pueblo" was created in the context of the “Bicentenario” project by the Goethe Institutes in South America. The continent celebrates its 200 years of independence from Spain and due to this occasion the Bicentenario project presents artistic positions that reflect the current situation of the individual South American countries.

I planned a trip to Venezuela, where I searched for specific and traditional every-day objects I could use as a symbol for the countrys continuous struggle for liberty and autonomy. GLORIA AL BRAVO PUEBLO shows a traditional hammock in the colors of the venezuelan flag. An anonymous and invisible actor seems to be trapped inside. His helpless movements are accompanied by parrots singing the national anthem of Venezuela.
On the one hand, the videoinstallation reflects the ongoing struggle for liberation from various dependencies, on the other hand it is a hint on  the entanglement of political rancor and the hypocrisy of populist discourses.
